Promoting wellness in individuals with coronary heart disease

Article Abstract:

Coronary heart disease patients benefit greatly when their health risk behaviors are reduced and clinicians have designed wellness models which focus on patient adherence to risk reduction programs. Models emphasizing behavior and motivation consider contextual influences such as environment, social factors and biologic factors in their promotion of lifestyle evaluation and change. In targeting key influencing factors, models can be designed for individual risk reduction needs.

Health promotion across the continuum: challenges for the future of cardiovascular nursing

Article Abstract:

Cardiovascular nurses need to restructure their practice in view of the current trends toward recognizing illness and promoting health care. Health promotion needs to spread across the traditionally separate areas of illness and wellness. Care delivery, standards for institutional reimbursement, and an emphasis on prevention will need to be redesigned to meet the increasing need for cardiovascular services in the 21st century.

Outpatient management of lipid disorders

Article Abstract:

Lipid disorders can be managed with considerable cost efficiency through outpatient facilities. High concentrations of low-density lipoproteins probably encourages artherosclerosis, but hospital-based programs are expensive. Cardiac centers, clinics for diabetes treatment, and multispecialty medical groups could reduce health care costs by establishing lipid management clinics.
