Satisfaction with HMOs: accessibility issues top the list for patients in commercial groups

Article Abstract:

A survey on customer satisfaction of health maintenance organizations found three major areas of complaint and concluded that accessibility to care is the most important area for marketers to focus on. Although quality of care and provider attitude were also targets of consumer complaint, accessibility to care as controlled by the primary care physician was of more fundamental importance. If HMOs can achieve a high level of customer satisfaction, they may have more influence over healthcare legislation.

Is managed care managing to kill us? 'Conspiracy of silence' is taking its toll on health care professionals

Article Abstract:

The transition to managed healthcare systems creates enormous personal challenges for health care marketers, because the shift sets up an organization that relies on the marketing department to drive profits. The marketer's function shifts from communicating concepts to others to managing highly technical contracts, which must be explained to many different parties within as well as without the company. The changes create long hours and personal anguish with very little support.
