Taking the case to kin

Article Abstract:

Opinions regarding the disclosure of a patient's diagnostic information by hospital personnel is often dictated by differences in culture. A University of Southern California study of 800 elderly subjects found that European-Americans and African-Americans feel that patients should be told if they are diagnosed with metastatic cancer more often than Korean-Americans and Mexican-Americans. A smaller proportion of Korean-Americans and Mexican-Americans also felt patients should decide whether they will use life-support methods to stay alive.

Uneasy marks: Germany's celebrated health system stumbles over - what else? - money

Article Abstract:

Germany's vaunted health care system that offered Germans unlimited doctor visits with no copayment, or three weeks of spa treatment for full time workers, if a doctor prescribes it, is in deep trouble. Economic woes stemming from the huge costs of rebuilding East Germany, as well as economic pressures associated with Germany membership in the European Union, have made the situation worse.
