The impact of maternal alcohol and illicit drug use on children's behavior problems: evidence from the children of the national longitudinal survey of youth

Article Abstract:

The impact of mothers' drug and alcohol use on their children's mental health and behavior is analyzed. Additional information on the mother-child fixed effects models analyzing the connection between mothers' drug and alcohol use and children's behavior problems is included.

Lighting up and slimming down: the effects of body weight and cigarette prices on adolescent smoking initiation

Article Abstract:

The influence of body weight, body image, and cigarette prices in determining adolescent smoking initiation is examined. Adolescents who desire to lose weight may initiate smoking as a method for appetite control, which undermines the goals of tobacco control policies that seek to prevent smoking initiation.
