The monster called red tape

Article Abstract:

Tbe South Carolina Hospital Assn discovered that 62% of state applicants for Medicaid were refused access for reasons related to paperwork on application forms. The organization launched a program to teach hospital staff and social service workers the proper method of filling out these forms. Also, simplification of the forms has improved Medicaid eligibility for poor women and their children in poverty-stricken regions of South Carolina.

The battle against burnout

Article Abstract:

Burnout is increasingly common among healthcare executives. A 1994 Opinion Research Corp study found that 68% of managers consider burnout a serious problem. The probable reasons for the increased incidence of burnout include economic pressures, increased competition, and more complex and intense work. Healthcare organizations should consider human costs, when making changes, and should try to communicate more openly with employees.
