The public's future perspective on managed care

Article Abstract:

Public opinion on medical care services and the extent to which the public is willing to spend for the system will determine how well managed care can control medical care expenditures. The importance of controlling medical care costs is addressed in lieu of emphasis in the past on the availability, quality and the range of services being offered. Managed care programs are more concerned with the costs involved in providing medical care and with people being treated as cost centers rather than patients.

Employee reactions to managed care

Article Abstract:

Managed care health plans have been shown to generate substantial impact on the organizational effectiveness of medical employees by influencing their perception on job security and satisfaction. Increasing reports of lay-offs and retrenchment have drawn a negative impact on medical employees, contributing to lower job satisfaction and commitment. Negative connotations associated with managed care have also led to lesser employee competence and promoted contract violations among medical personnel.
