Thyroid dysfunction in pregnancy

Article Abstract:

Thyroid dysfunction is the second most common endocrine disorder among women of childbearing age. Furthermore, a woman with normal pregnancy may show signs of thyroid disorder because thyroid function and metabolism are altered in pregnancy. Thyroid dysfunction can affect the fetus, the woman, and the newborn. It is important that perinatal nurses understand the effects of this disease to provide adequate care.

Acute fatty liver of pregnancy

Article Abstract:

Acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFLP) is a potentially fatal but rare complication during the third trimester. Despite advancements in treatment, the exact pathogenesis is unknown. Furthermore, many pregnant women are misdiagnosed with other common liver diseases. More data is needed because the rarity of the disease limits researchers' ability to systematically study causation, disease process, and treatment.
