Valuing health care using willingness to pay: a comparison of the payment card and dichotomous choice methods

Article Abstract:

A comparison between willingness to pay (WTP) estimates generated from the dichotomous choice (DC) and payment card (PC) approaches is given. It is shown that the DC approach consistently generates larger welfare estimates than the PC in a split-sample WTP experiment concerned with allocating scarce health care resources across three health care interventions.

Equity weights in the allocation of health care: the rank-dependent QALY model

Article Abstract:

The rank-dependent QALY model that permits the formalization of influential concepts of equity in the allocation of health care is proposed. An advantage of the rank-dependent QALY model is that it offers a straightforward procedure for estimating equity weights from preferences over comonotonic QALY profiles.
