Vegas hits a hot streak

Article Abstract:

Universal Health Services and Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., taking note of Las Vegas, NV's rapidly growing population, have both decided to build new hospitals in the area. Both projects are on Clark County's northwest side, where a retirement development and a planned community are attracting new residents. Columbia/HCA's new 120-bed facility opened in Jan 1996, and Universal's facility is scheduled to become operational in late 1997.

Mammograms at the mall

Article Abstract:

Nordstrom Inc. opened a mammogram center, in cooperation with Evanston and Glenbrook hospitals, in its Old Orchard Shopping Center department store in Skokie, IL. The center, which is part of a series of breast cancer services offered by the department store, provides low-dose mammograms in a comfortable setting. Patient results are reported within 24 to 38 hours at a cost of $135.

Baton Rouge, LA's Ochsner Clinic has switched its hospital affiliation to nonprofit General Health System from the Medical Center of Baton Rouge. Ochsner shares a belief in a patient-centered practice and improvement in quality with General Health. The Medical Center's parent Nashville, TN-based HealthTrust merged in Apr 1995 with for-profit Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp.
