Web-o-matic isn't automatic: Internet technology hasn't broken the barrier between doctors & computers - yet

Article Abstract:

Physicians have yet to fully utilize the Internet to access patient data despite ease-of-use improvements. Most physicians believe that pausing at a computer terminal decreases their productivity, and rely on staff to print paper copies of charts. To draw more doctors to computers, informatino providers will use push technology to send breaking news on both medicine and sports to computer desktops to encourage doctors to access a computer several times a day.

Look for the union label

Article Abstract:

Many private-practice doctors would like to unionize so that they can bargain collectively with healthcare payers. Antitrust law makes physician unionization very unlikely, however. Experts say that doctors and hospitals have to form true managed-care joint ventures, in order to bargain collectively without facing the threat of criminal prosecution.
