In vivo degradation of bleaching gel used in whitening teeth

Article Abstract:

The bleaching agent in tooth bleaching kits appears to last for as long as 10 hours. These kits are sold for home use and require the user to wear a mouthpiece containing the gel for long periods of time. At various times during a 10-hour period, researchers measured the amount of carbamide peroxide in a bleaching gel worn by patients. Carbamide peroxide is the bleaching agent used in many kits. Two hours after application, about half the amount of carbamide peroxide remained, and at 10 hours, 10% remained.
