A comparison of two models of gynecology service consultation to the emergency department in an academic medical center

Article Abstract:

Many pregnant women who experience pain or bleeding in the second trimester could be treated in an emergency room instead of being referred to an obstetrician-gynecologist, according to a study of 490 women. However, many of the women still had to be seen by an OB-GYN, which increased the time they spent in the hospital. Doctors in the emergency room also did more pregnancy tests than an OB-GYN would.
