A randomized controlled trial of the value of phenotypic testing in addition to genotypic testing for HIV drug resistance

Article Abstract:

The clinical utility of phenotypic resistance testing in addition to genotypic resistance testing among HIV-1 infected patients experiencing virologic failure and with limited therapeutic options are assessed. It did not demonstrate added value of phenotypic resistance testing in conjunction with genotypic resistance testing in patients with limited therapeutic options.

Home visits to improve adherence to highly active antiretroviral therapy: A randomized controlled trial

Article Abstract:

A 2-arm, randomized, controlled trial evaluated the efficacy of community-based, home-visit intervention to improve medication adherence. Results reveal that home visits from a nurse and a community worker were associated with medication adherence greater than 90 on a cohort of socially vulnerable people living with HIV/AIDS in northeastern US.

The effect of insurance coverage changes on drug utilization in HIV disease

Article Abstract:

The authors discuss a study done to determine the effect of changes in insurance coverage on the use of medication among HIV patients. They found that loss of insurance was less than half as frequent as gaining insurance, but that both led to a decrease in use of antiretrovirals and other drugs.
