A farewell to Scannell

Article Abstract:

Gerard F. Scannell resigned as head of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to assume a vice-presidential position at Johnson and Johnson. The farewell parties held in his honor opened up a wellspring of commendation for his commitment to promote safety and health in the workplace. Former House representative Dorothy Strunk, who had been actively involved in the Subcommittee for Occupational Safety and Health, was named acting assistant secretary to replace Scannell.

Comings and goings: high-level staff changes at OSHA have to make you wonder

Article Abstract:

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has undergone a massive change in management. While a large number of executives have resigned or retired, Charles Jeffress moved in as head of the agency and immediately chose eight of the top 12 positions in OSHA's Washington, DC, office. These include the new chiefs of Information Technology, the Directorate of Compliance Programs, the Directorate of Safety Standards Programs and the Directorate of Policy.

Winds of change blow through the Council

Article Abstract:

Chuck Gilchrest has stepped down from his post as president of the National Safety Council after 12 years of service. During his tenure as president, Gilchrest's unselfishness advanced the council's mission to protect life and promote health. Gilchrest's work will be continued by Gerard F. Scannell, formerly of Johnson and Johnson, who is the first certified safety professional to head the council.
