A needed remarriage: dentistry and dental technology

Article Abstract:

Dental technicians and dentists should work together in order to provide better care for their patients. The heightened demand for all types of dentures requires more expertise by both dentists and dental technicians. Unfortunately, graduating dentists lack technical knowledge and technicians lack clinical exposure. Both areas of expertise, however, are needed for patient satisfaction and synchronized career success. In addition, dental technicians may be viewed as having lower status than dentists despite their crucial contributions to dental practice. Future improvements, such as educational interaction and certification for technicians, are advocated to foster a mutually dependent and respectful interaction between dental technology and dentistry.
