A new leader for changing times

Article Abstract:

Noel Bufe, who is slated to take the post of chairman of the National Safety Council (NSC) board of directors, considers the new leadership structure of the NSC more conducive to inputs from its members. The new structure delineates the functions of its members according to the three primary types of activities they are involved in namely, governance, fund raising, and safety and health advocacy. Foremost among Bufe's goals is make the NSC more visible as an effective safety advocate. He also wants to improve the NSC's fiscal and technical productivity.

Secretary of labor sets her course

Article Abstract:

Labor secretary Alexis M. Herman is one of the few federal officials who have regarded occupational health and safety a priority. In moving towards a risk-free and healthy working environment, Herman is considering the implementation of plain-language standards in order to develop workers' grasp on various safety and health measures. She also believes that inflation can be addressed by extending financial support to minority business enterprises and promoting cost-cutting measures among companies.

Article Abstract:

Ronald A. Paar, safety director at the John Deere Foundry in Waterloo, IA, has dedicated his life to helping others with his involvement with the National Safety Council. Paar feels that safety professionals, who has the proper training and expertise in safety and health, must provide to society any help for its betterment.
