A retirement option for physicians not yet ready to quit

Article Abstract:

Physicians may now expect to live much longer than 65 years, so gradual reduction of the work load may be preferable to sudden retirement. Some physicians stop making hospital visits and refer certain patients to the emergency doctor on duty. Obstetricians may stop delivering babies and concentrate instead on their gynecological patients. Retirement funds, household mortgages and health insurance may be planned so as to permit retirement at a later time.

If it's time to get out, who will buy your practice?

Article Abstract:

Physicians should analyze several principal factors before positioning their medical practice for sale. Understanding the local market, the medical practice and the potential buyers is critical to developing a successful selling strategy. Reading regional and specialty medical society journals and newspapers, networking with physicians who have practice-selling experience and conferring with consultants can be of particular help in the selling process.

Marketplace should determine MD supply, AMA report states
