Article Abstract:

A typical ward in a typicalinner-city hospital is described and its problems of old equipment equipment, constantly repairedfurnishings and fittings and a poor layout. Some physical and adminsitrative changes have beenmade although the ward still does not have even basic lifting equipment. The fact that the ward ismixed sex is a contentious issue with patients and there ae no facilities for families andvisitors.

Coronary heart disease and the risk to women

Article Abstract:

Coronary heart disease (CHD) accounts for the death of 25% of women in the UK alone, according to the National Forum for Coronary Heart Disease. CHD has traditionally been associated as a male disease, however, increased awareness of the disease among men, and a improvement in lifestyle has changed the balance. Similarly, women's lifestyles have changed for the worse.

Unison is to provide a broader range of professional services to members, challenging the professional role of the RCN. It plans affiliations with other professional organisations but representing members on pay and conditions will remain a priority. It is already developing professional liaison officer posts.
