A survey of attitudes to sex education among secondary school governors in Nottinghamshire

Article Abstract:

A questionnaire was sent to 50% of the governors of state-maintained secondary schools in Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom, to find out their views on sex education and their school's written sex education policy. Eighty three per cent said their school had a policy, while 6% did not, and more than 90% thought that relationships, contraception and homosexuality should be covered. Homosexuality was a contentious issue, with 31% of co-opted governors saying it should not be discussed, compared to 18% of parent governors. Most governors want more training in sex education issues.

Evaluating HIV prevention for women prostitutes in Cardiff

Article Abstract:

A health education project has been carried out in Cardiff, Wales, to contact prostitutes and assessed how they can be helped to protect themselves against HIV infection. The project helped promote the use of condoms and safer practices among drug users. Project workers have also been seen as able to provide more general advice on health issues by prostitutes. The project has also encouraged the women to value themselves more and they are thus less likely to take risks.
