Adherence to antiretroviral medication among HIV-positive patients in Thailand

Article Abstract:

The HIV RNA test results from the medical record of a sample of 149 Thai patients receiving antiretroviral (ARV) therapy at Bhumrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute located near Bangkok which reported medication adherence on a 30-day visual analog scale are presented. The findings from the data confirm that adherence is only 1 factor that determines the effectiveness of ARV treatment and duration of treatment was associated with virologic failure and controlling for adherence.

Practical and conceptual challenges in measuring antiretroviral adherence

Article Abstract:

The state of the science of adherence measurement is reviewed to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of common adherence measurement methods, and to recommend directions for improving antiretroviral adherence measurement in research and clinical care. For clinicians examination of ways to improve self-reported adherence has the potential to decrease provider frustration, minimize adherence misclassification, and promote timely adherence interventions.

Safety and antiretroviral effectiveness of concomitant use of rifampicin and efavirenz for antiretroviral-naive patients in India who are co infected with tuberculosis and HIV-1

Article Abstract:

Efavirenz-based highly active antiretroviral therapy with rifampicin for HIV/TB-co infected resulted in an immunologic response that was comparable with that of the group not receiving rifampicin. The concomitant use of efavirenz and rifampicin resulted in no measurable increase in immunologic failure and no increase in failure to cure TB at the end of a 9-month course of treatment.
