Type 2 diabetes is characterized by a deficit in insulin secretion and efforts are made to understand this mechanism. A novel mechanism that controls cell-surface expression of glucose transporter 2(GLUT-2) is described in which GLUT-2 is lowly expressed because of modification in the structure of GLUT-2-N-glycan that ultimately leads to impaired glucose stimulated insulin secretion.
