ADHD drugs and cardiovascular risk

Article Abstract:

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended a 'black box' warning describing the cardiovascular risks of stimulant drugs used to treat attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), as the sympathomimetic agents in these drugs substantially increase the heart rate and blood pressure. However, medical practitioners have sought to emphasize more selective and restrictive use of these drugs, while increasing awareness of potential hazards.

The use of parecoxib and valdecoxib after CABG was found to be associated with an increased incidence of cardiovascular events aroused serious concern about the use of these drugs in such circumstances.
