Positive thinking

Article Abstract:

UK funding for nursing research is often prioritised on misleading information and does not take account of the whole picture. Funding assessments from the Higher Education Funding Council (HEFC) uses a method known as the research assessment exercise (RAE). Ratings awarded via the RAE have risen and funding for nursing department research has trebled since 1989. Applications for grants can fail due to lack of finance, the quality of the proposal may not be high enough or the scope of the topic is not focused sufficiently.

Using simulation to prepare students for their qualified role

Article Abstract:

A ward simulation exercise was undertaken by 10 third-year BSc adult branch nursing students in order to prepare themselves for their role as qualified nurses. The exercise proved useful as students learnt much more by being active in the field rather than just learning in classrooms and the academic staff also had great learning time interacting with students.
