AMA and Joint Commission - a new relationship?

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) took a step toward increasing public confidence in the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations by appointing members who are not AMA trustees. The commission, which has accredited groups that provide medical care since 1951, has endured questions about its objectivity because of dominance by hospitals and medical professionals. Commissioners must be faithful to the commission's purpose, or the organization will be vulnerable to criticism.
