AMA proposes revamp of military's new health plan

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) is unhappy with the Civilian Health and Medical Program for the Uniformed Services (CHAMPUS) and with TriCare, the U.S. Department of Defense's triple-option health plan whose maximum payments in the fee-for-service option have declined sharply in recent years. The AMA claims that TriCare is reducing military dependents' and retirees' access to medical care and should be revamped, preferably in a similar manner to the federal employees health benefits program.

AMA: maintain health care for legal immigrants

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Assn plans to inform Congress of the importance of health benefits for legal immigrants. Welfare reform legislation will deny welfare and Medicaid to legal benefits even if these legal immigrants become citizens. The association is concerned that all individuals living in the US will be at risk if health benefits are denied legal immigrants. The resulting health care costs will also increase tremendously if benefits are denied.

Medicare buy-in plan sparks furor: Commission, AMA suggest consideration of other alternatives

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association wants to examine other options before backing a Medicare expansion program proposed by President Clinton. The proposal would allow early retirees and displaced workers of specific age groups to buy in to the Medicare program. The AMA believes Medicare should be secured first for the group it was designed to cover before it is expanded.
