No right to suicide help: physician groups applaud federal court ruling

Article Abstract:

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in a 2 to 1 decision that there is no constitutional right to assisted suicide. The ruling was a reversal of a Seattle federal judge's May 1994 decision. The appeals court upheld a 141-year-old ban against suicide assistance in Washington state. The appeals court reinstated the ban as a means of providing protection to the poor, disabled and minorities. The American Medical Assn approved of the ruling, as its ethics code prohibits euthanasia.
