Deficiency or inhibition of Gas6 causes platelet dysfunction and protects mice against thrombosis

Article Abstract:

The growth arrest-specific gene 6 product (Gas6) has been shown to amplify blood platelet-response that is a significant element of thrombosis. This suggests a possible therapeutic use for Gas6 in preventing thrombosis.

Abrupt rate accelerations or premature beats cause life-threatening arrhythmias in mice with long-QT3 syndrome

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the deletion of the amino-acid residues in the cardiac Na (super)+ channel which causes the autosomal dominant electrocardiographic QY interval prolongation. Results indicate that the essential long-QY syndrome type 3 features develop life-threatening polymorphous venticular arrhythmias.

A genetic Xenopus laevis tadpole model to study lymphangiogenesis

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that Xenopus tadpoles develop lymph vessels from lymphangioblasts or, through transdifferentiation, from venous endothelial cells is presented. Lymphangiography reveals that these lymph vessels drain lymph, through the lymph heart, to the venous circulation.
