Act without authority

Article Abstract:

Critics of the UK Disability Discrimination Act of 1996 have found little to change their opinion in the Act's first year of existence. Only nine of the fifty employees who took cases concerning disability discrimination to industrial tribunals won their cases. Critics say that the act needs a better definition of disability, that it should cover cases in which employers discriminate against people because they believe the person may have a problem, and that erroneous decision-making by tribunals has marred the act's effectiveness.

You are wanted in theatre

Article Abstract:

Theatre nursing needs to make itself more attractive to potential nursing recruits if it is to avoid the general staff shortages which have hit other parts of the UK National Health Service. The public perception of theatre nursing needs to be up dated as a professional occupation which requires more than the ability to hand over surgical equipment to surgeons. Theatre nursing is a multidisciplinary role which requires training in several keys areas of medical knowledge, such as anaesthetics and recovery.

Would you credit it?

Article Abstract:

UK nurses are often caught in debt due to low wages, rather than an inability to manage money, according to a report by the Policy Studies Institute, which monitored the spending patterns of nurses with debt to discover the root cause. The report highlights trainee nurses and older nurses with young families as the two main groups which suffer from debt. Initiating individual voluntary arrangements with creditors can help people in debt to management their money more successfully.
