Adjunctive periodontal therapy

Article Abstract:

Local and systemic drugs, in combination with frequent tooth scaling and root planing (SRP), can effectively treat periodontal disease in patients unable or unwilling to undergo periodontal surgery. SRP removes dead and infected tissue below the gumline to allow the gums to reattach to the tooth roots. For some patients, the procedure may require repeating every three months until the disease process is controlled. Systemic treatment with Periostat, or local treatment in periodontal pockets with doxycycline, help to control the progression of periodontitis and promote gum healing. Dentists may delegate some adjunctive periodontal care to dental hygienists.

Is occlusion becoming more confusing? A plea for simplicity

Article Abstract:

Most of the practitioners are confused about occlusion, and there is a constant conflict among promoters of occlusion products about the correctness of occlusion philosophy/theory/concept. The known characteristics of 'normal' occlusion, as observed in healthy people, are discussed, and suggestions about the desirability of achieving those same characteristics when altering occlusion are suggested.
