Airway surface dehydration in cystic fibrosis: Pathogenesis and therapy

Article Abstract:

Studies have found that cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease reflects the failure of airways defense against chronic bacterial infection. It is revealed that studies of CF cultures, transgenic mice, and CF patients indicate that the initiating event in the CF airways disease pathogenesis is reduced airway surface liquid (ASL) volume that is dehydration.

Surgical treatment of morbid obesity

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted on bariatric surgery, the only therapeutic mode that can treat obesity by producing sustained weight loss and halt or resolve comorbidities. Results show that weight -loss surgery is likely to be even more common in the future, when compared to the methods of altering eating habits and the change of cultural climate.

Pathogenesis and treatment of graft-versus-host disease after bone marrow transplant

Article Abstract:

This review discusses the biology, clinical manifestations, prophylaxis, and treatment of graft-versus-host disease in stem cell/bone marrow transplantation performed on patients with hematologic malignancies and/or immune deficiency states. Treatment of acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease is also discussed.
