Alcohol use, liberal/conservative orientations, and ethnicity as predictors of sexual behaviors

Article Abstract:

Black Americans may practice riskier sexual behaviors for acquiring HIV than whites. Researchers interviewed 1,392 adults in San Antonio, Texas, and found that black men, especially those who did not drink alcohol, had more sex partners and practiced riskier sexual behaviors more frequently than whites. Drinking before sex predicted risky sexual behavior and a greater number of sexual partners more than did people's overall drinking habits. Divorced or separated respondents had more sexual partners in the previous year than married or never-married people. However, people with more sexual partners did not always practice risky sexual behaviors.
