Holistic power

Article Abstract:

Complementary therapies have been studied to enhance a holistic approach to patient care in an intensive care unit. Iridology enables diagnosis through examination of the iris. Massage, aromatherapy and shiatsu have also proved useful. Shiatsu massage techniques remain effective even if modified by individual needs. Financial savings are possible through reduced hospital stays and less use of medicines. However, research into the efficacy of treatments is necessary to dispel scepticism.

All things considered

Article Abstract:

A Macmillan clinical nurse specialist has been appointed by the Cancer Relief Macmillan Fund and the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital NHS Trust to research and develop the complementary cancer care programme. A survey of patients receiving complementary therapy revealed that most patients hoped that the therapy would help alleviate symptoms of stress and anxiety. Most patients undergoing homeopathic treatment would also like to try acupuncture, aromatherapy, massage, and visualisation.

Debate: Is holistic care always the best approach?

Article Abstract:

A debate about holistic nursing care and the ways in which everyone can benefit from it is discussed. Sue Baron the key to holistic nursing, states that, the development of nurse/patient relationship is based on trust and mutual respect while Jane Warner states that holistic care is occasionally inappropriate but it is a clear example of pseudoscience.
