An endogenous pentapeptide acting as a sodium channel blocker in inflammatory autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns inflammatory autoimmune diseases that are characterized by the blockage of sodium channels by endogenous substances. Research on the central nervous system suggests a pentapeptide sequence in the cerebrospinal fluid acts as a sodium-channel-blocking factor.

A new peak in the ALPS

Article Abstract:

One form of autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome II (ALPS II) involves a mutation in the gene for CASP 10. CASP 10 is involved in lymphocyte apoptosis, and the resulting defect in apoptosis causes an abnormal accumulation of T and B cells and autoimmune disease.

Induction of activin A is essential for the neuroprotective action of basic fibroblast growth factor in vivo

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns functional recovery after brain injuries, focusing on the neuroprotective function of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF). Research suggests the protective action of bFGF is associated with the induction of activin A.
