Generation of tumor-specific cytolytic T lymphocytes from peripheral blood of cervical cancer patients by in vitro stimulation with a synthetic human papillomavirus type 16 E7 epitope

Article Abstract:

It may be possible to develop a vaccine to immunize against human papillomavirus (HPV) and possibly to help treat cervical cancer. Certain HPV strains are strongly associated with cervical cancer. Researchers harvested white blood cells from three women with cervical cancer and cultured them with an HPV viral protein that is known to play a role in the conversion of normal cells to cancer. This stimulated the production of cell-destroying T lymphocytes specifically keyed to that protein in two of the three cases.

Cervical cancer practice patterns and appropriateness of therapy

Article Abstract:

Some treatments for cervical cancer may not be effective, according to a study of 5,952 women with cervical cancer. Although women who received no treatment had higher mortality rates than treated women, women who received recommended treatments were just as likely to die as those who received un-recommended treatments.
