Stars of the night

Article Abstract:

Patient care at the New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, England, improved following the appointment of night nurse practitioners (NNPs). Junior doctors were able to hand over some clinical and administrative duties and were consequently able to focus more on seriously ill patients and new admissions. The NNPs still retained a nursing role, however, with only 20% of their time spent on tasks previously carried out by a doctor. The nurses established their own working protocols and had management backing.
