An intraoperative method of localizing a missing piece of a broken laparoscopic instrument

Article Abstract:

Broken pieces of surgical instruments that become lost in the body may be located by using x-rays and a radiopaque grid on the skin. Surgeons lost a laparoscopic needle holder during laparoscopy somewhere in the bowels. The needle holder was seen on x-ray film, but could not be located and removed by laparoscopy. Surgeons then devised a way of locating the broken instrument by using radiopaque threads taken from x-ray-visible sponges to make a grid on the patient's skin. The needle holder was then located and removed within a few minutes.

Histological and biomechanical evaluation of implanted graft materials in a rabbit vaginal and abdominal model

Article Abstract:

The histologic and biomechanical changes of implanted dermal collagen graft materials in a rabbit vaginal and abdominal model are evaluated. It is observed that dermal graft materials cause moderate inflammation and minimal collagen ingrowth remote from implantation and their mechanical properties decline after implantation.

Outcome of tension-free vaginal tape procedure when complicated by intraoperative cystotomy

Article Abstract:

A study determines whether intraoperative cystotomy during tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) procedure affects surgical outcome and morbidity. The findings suggest that, when an intraoperative cystotomy occurs at the time of the TVT procedure, there are no negative effects on the outcome of the TVT procedure.
