An open letter to Hillary Rodham Clinton on reform

Article Abstract:

Health care reform must find a way to insure the uninsured while reducing costs. Such reform can either fit as many people as possible into the healthcare budget or it can determine the money needed by adding up the costs of basic coverage for the number of people who should be covered. A number of issues should be addressed, such as lowering physician liability costs and allowing patients to help budget health care dollars. The single-payer system, used in Canada and other countries, should be avoided. It creates a two-tiered system where the wealthy pay extra for a better standard of care.

Physicians consensus on reform needed soon

Article Abstract:

Physician groups must come together and present a single, workable healthcare reform package to Congress. The groups must then devise a list of secondary priorities and bargaining tactics to use during Congressional negotiations. As it is, medical specialty organizations are lobbying behind each others' backs, a tactic which will be exploited by legislators who care little about particular specialties. If the medical profession does not take quick, decisive action to present a united front and a single plan, physicians may easily end up the group suffering most because of healthcare reform.
