AIDS fear threaten blood services; decline in donations seen

Article Abstract:

Fear of AIDS is threatening the US blood collection system. Some commercial blood banks may start emphasizing a service of storing the donor's own blood for autologous transfusion. Directed donations may become hazardous to blood recipients because selected donors could be pressured into donating but be untruthful about their eligibility to meet requirements. Reported donations seem to be down nationwide about 10%.
