CDC initiative targets HIV research gaps in black and Hispanic communities

Article Abstract:

A new initiative launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) targets to fill the HIV research gap in under-served communities such as the African American and Hispanics. The program was designed to fund epidemiological and preventative studies of HIV within minority communities a swell as to encourage the career development of young African American and Hispanic investigators with an interest in HIV.

Assessment of increase in perinatal exposure to HIV-20 counties, Georgia, 1994-2002

Article Abstract:

Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) collaborated with health-care providers at clinic A to assess the increase in perinatal exposure to HIV among Hispanics. The conclusion states that linkages should be offered to specialized treatment and prevention services for all women who wish to delay childbearing, to reduce the risk for both sexual and perinatal HIV transmission among underserved women living with HIV.

Atypical reactions associated with heroine use- Five states, January-April 2005

Article Abstract:

The investigation by state and local health and law enforcement authorities and Center for Disease Control and Prevention into the 26 cases of atypical reactions after heroin use were reported in five states are summarized. The 26 cases described, likely represent a fraction of actual cases of clenbuterol poisoning where patients might not have medical evaluation for fear of legal repercussions.
