Assessment tool promotes continence after childbirth

Article Abstract:

Continence advisers for Sandwell Healthcare National Health Service Trust in West Bromwich, England, have developed a urinary and faecal incontinence risk-assessment tool for use by midwives with women during the postnatal period. This tool was developed in consultation with obstetricians, midwives and trust managers. All women receive an assessment postnatally using the tool, with the midwife providing instruction on pelvic floor exercises if necessary. Some women have been referred to the continence service, and all have achieved improved continence health.

What do users really think of continence care?

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the second stage of the national care audit by the Association for Continence Advice reveals that whilst most patients are satisfied with the care received, many felt they had been given insufficient information. Other key issues included embarrassment and fear of discovery and insufficient, poorly designed public lavatories.
