Behavior therapy and sibutramine for the treatment of adolescent obesity: a randomized controlled trial

Article Abstract:

The drug sibutramine in combination with behavior therapy may be effective in treating obesity in teenagers, according to a study of 82 obese teenagers. However, the FDA has not approved this drug for use in anyone under the age of 16. Consequently, it should only be used on an experimental basis until more data can be collected on its safety and effectiveness.

Long-term Weight Loss With Sibutramine: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Article Abstract:

The drug sibutramine appears to be effective in promoting weight loss in obese people, according to a study of 1,001 people who took the drug or a placebo for one year. The occurrence of side effects can be minimized by discontinuing the drug for a few weeks periodically. This intermittent treatment was as effective as continuous treatment.
