Irinotecan plus fluorouracil and leucovorin for metastatic colorectal cancer

Article Abstract:

Patients with metastatic colorectal cancer appear to show longer terms of progression-free survival upon treatment with irinotecan in combination with fluorouracil and leucovorin, according to a study of 683 patients. Treatment with irinotecan alone produced similar results to fluorouracil and leucovorin combination therapy.

Moving beyond fluorouracil for colorectal cancer

Article Abstract:

Treatment of advanced stages of colorectal cancer is examined with reference to two new drugs, irinotecan and oxaliplatin. Studies clearly indicate superiority of the three-drug combination, using either of the newer drugs in conjunction with conventional fluorouracil and leucovorin treatment, as a means to achieving tumor regression and delaying tumor progression.
