Bioethics in an Asian context

Article Abstract:

The Western tradition of self-determination and self-interest has led to adoption of rules on abortion, right to die, and population policy that many Asian nations simply cannot abide. Western ethicists must respect Asian social, religions, and cultural traditions in making international policies.

A plea for the individual

Article Abstract:

The highest principles of the human medical rights must focus on individuals' physical, social, and psychological needs. Issues such as maternal mortality, AIDS orphans, female genital mutilation, and biotechnology must be addressed by the international medical community.
