Biosensors improve diagnostic abilities for heart, orthopedic care

Article Abstract:

Small, implantable experimental biosensors help clinicians in treating a variety of heart and orthopedic problems by detecting pressure changes in the area they are implanted and emitting radio waves to be monitored by an external radio receiver. Research is in progress to improve biosensors to be used in patients treated for hypertension, and also to enable the devices to provide appropriate intervention in the event of a problem in the patient.

Depression-heart disease link probed

Article Abstract:

People with cardiovascular disease are more likely to be clinically depressed, and healthy people with depression are at greater risk of developing heart problems. Scientists are documenting the link among depression, infection, and immunity after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and are finding ways in which treating major depression in such patients can prevent a decline in immunity and an increase in infection.
