Bolster your bylaws

Article Abstract:

A hospital staff should hire legal assistance to draft or review the bylaws governing their relationship with the hospital board. The failure to anticipate areas of possible conflict can result in legal problems harmful to the institution. Legal protection is needed in the areas of staff elections and privileges, peer review and credentialing, and exclusive contracts made by the board. The bylaws also need to state what will happen to the bylaws if the hospital changes hands.

Buying smart: you'll have to invest in new technology to stay competitive

Article Abstract:

Physicians faced with capital investment decisions might consider strategies used by the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin. Marshfield directors suggest that physicians first consider whether a proposed capital investment will improve both patient care and a clinic's financial position. Other factors include new business prospects and local demand. Physicians should also try to identify hidden costs associated with the operation of new equipment.
