Budget basics: a well-drawn financial chart can keep your practice on course

Article Abstract:

Physicians should plan the future of their practice and draw up a budget to help them realize their goals. Techniques for developing and implementing a budget for a medical office, include reasons to develop a budget, steps to reviewing and revising one, and major items that should be included. For example, a budget should account for revenue, salary, equipment, discretionary expenses and cash flow. Budgets can be based on several models; it can be planned according to program goals or based on last year's costs and revenues.

Article Abstract:

The Los Angeles Free Clinic was started in 1967 to treat the young people who gathered in Los Angeles during the 'summer of love'. They needed health services related to drug use and sexually transmitted diseases. The 30-year old clinic has moved from its single one-story building to three locations that provide health services, dental care, legal help, and other services needed by the mostly homeless and battered mothers that are its clients in 1997.

Group practices prepare for future: associations restructuring to help members keep place in market

Article Abstract:

The Medical Group Management Assn and the American Group Practice Assn are revising their mission statements and membership rules in order to improve their advocacy for group medical practices. The Medical Group Management Assn has broadened its focus to represent the interests of all group practices. The American Group Practice Assn has narrowed its focus and membership to represent only multispecialty group practices.
