CCL5-CCR5 interaction provides antiapoptotic signals for macrophage survival during viral infection

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that mice lacking the chemokine Ccl5 are immune compromised to the point of delayed viral clearance, excessive airway inflammation and respiratory death after mouse parainfluenza or human influenza virus infection is presented. Virus-inducible levels of CcI5 are required to prevent apoptosis of virus-infected mouse macrophages in vivo and mouse and macrophages ex vivo.

ACE sets up fertilization

Article Abstract:

Angiotension I converting enzyme (ACE) acts as a peptidase that regulates enzymes responsible for maintaining blood pressure but studies in mice show that ACE also effects fertility. Researchers have found that ACE cleaves GPI-linked proteins, some of which mediate the fusion of sperm with egg.

Role of ISG15 protease UBP43 (USP18) in innate immunity to viral infection

Article Abstract:

The role of UBP43, encoded by the gene Usp 18, innate immunity to virus infection is examined. It is said the first direct evidence that the ISG15 protease UBP43 and possibly protein IsGylation have a role in innate immunity against viral infection.
