CDC: New repellents for West Nile Flight

Article Abstract:

The addition to the arsenal of chemicals of two new mosquito repellents recommended for US consumers to protect against West Nile virus infection, which can cause death or neurological disease in vulnerable individuals is described. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are hoping to boost, repellent use by recommending picaridin and oil of lemon eucalyptus as effective active ingredients in repellents.

PhD programs adopt bench-to-bedside model to speed translational research

Thirteen graduate schools across the US are modifying their curricula to provide PhD students with the best facilities and a solid background in clinical medicine with the help of $10 million in training grants from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). The revamped programs aim to speed translational research by boosting the number of clinically savvy basic research scientists.
