Calprotectin, a marker of inflammation, is elevated in the maternal but not in the fetal circulation in preeclampsia

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to investigate whether the concentration of calprotectin is elevated in maternal and fetal plasma, as well as in amniotic fluid in pregnancies complicated by preeclampasia compared with control pregnancies. The fetal circulation does not seem to be involved in the inflammatory reaction of pregnancy, neither in the control nor in the preeclamptic group, as judged by low calprotectin and C-reactive protein.

Subclinical signs of vascular damage relate to enhanced platelet responsiveness among nonpregnant formerly preeclamptic women

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to test the hypothesis that in non-pregnant and formerly preeclamtic women, enhanced platelet responsiveness is common and related to microvascular damage. The results indicate a subgroup of women who benefit from low-dose aspirin in the prevention of recurrent disease in next pregnancy.

Different levels of platelet activation in preeclamptic, normotensive pregnant, and nonpregnant women

Article Abstract:

The basal platelet activation state in women with preeclampsia is compared with normotensive pregnant women and nonpregnant women. The result states that platelets are important in the pathophysiologic condition of preeclampsia.
