'Most-litigated disease' impacts public health policy

Article Abstract:

AIDS discrimination cases have impacted public health policy. Several issues have emerged from the cases, including cap coverage of HIV/AIDS by insurance companies, the legal status of AIDS prevention programs and the rights of HIV-infected health care personnel. Lawrence O. Gostin, a legal expert on AIDS-related cases, estimates that over 2,000 lawsuits have been filed since the start of the AIDS epidemic.
